Zircon
DescriptionFor centuries, zircons have been confused with diamonds. Well known for its brilliance and fire (flashes of multicolored light), colorless zircons easily mimic the diamonds shine and allure. Sadly, this perception of zircons either as natural imitation of diamonds, or because of its close similarity in name to the manmade cubic zirconia, the public perceive zircons as less valuable a stone than it is. In truth Zircons are well beloved by gemologists and gem connoisseurs, for few natural stones can exhibit such intense fire. From its brilliant blue to fiery orange, there are not many natural stones that can exude such deep saturated flashes of light. Famed gemologist George Kunz, Tiffany’s famed gem buyer, was a notable zircon advocate. He proposed to have the zircon’s name changed to “starlite” to promote its fiery nature, although sadly it never caught on. |
