Termed the “Queen of Gems,” pearls have for civilizations on end represented prestige, power, and wealth. Historian Suetonius writes that the Roman General Vitellius financed an entire military campaign by selling just one of his mother’s pearl earrings. While current pearl cultivating technologies have made the value of pearls much more affordable then ever before in history, still a natural pearl is a prized possession that is passed down for generations as precious and worthy heirlooms. Like its long history, pearls have a unique way of making its wearer look elegant, respectable, and rich. There are not many gemstones as synonymous to pure elegance than the pearl.

Pearl is generally stable to light but high heat, whether from light or temperature, can cause pearls to dehydrate, discolor, and/or crack. Pearls can be damaged by many chemicals and acids.

Best way to clean a pearl is with a soft clean cloth after each wear. It should never be cleaned by ultrasonic or steam cleaner.
